What is Medical Ozone?Medical Ozone is known to have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-microbial properties. It has a natural antioxidant affect. Medical ozone delivers super enriched oxygen to the cells of the body helping them to function better. This may be by reducing inflammation or fighting infection, which helps the body to heal or repair itself. This means it helps reduce pain and discomfort and repairs damaged tissue.
-
How does it work? The science behind Medical Ozone Ozone (O3), a gas discovered in the mid-nineteenth century, is a molecule consisting of three atoms of oxygen. Since it's discovery, through clinical trials, researchers now believe it has many therapeutic effects. An electrical charge is passed through the O2 molecule, breaking the 2 atoms apart to become O1. O1 is unstable in its singular form so creates a weak bond with an O2 molecule creating O3. When in contact with a microbe, O3 destroys the microbe and in the process the single O1 atom is consumed leaving the O2 molecule behind. In clinical use the gas which is produced from medical grade oxygen is administered in very precise doses (never via inhalation), results have shown that it has excellent health benefits including, decrease blood cholesterol and stimulation of antioxidative responses, modifies oxygenation in resting muscle and is used in complementary treatment of hypoxic and ischemic syndromes. How it works Ozone therapy fights viral and bacterial infection to treat a range of illnesses and conditions, reduce pain and inflammation or to improve overall health and wellness. Ozone carries increased oxygen to the cells, ensuring they can function and perform their role in the body properly Reduces inflammation at a cellular level improving tissue repair Enhances immune response, fighting infection Kills most bacteria and viruses
-
Is Ozone Therapy Safe?Medical Ozone Therapy is not only safe, it is healing. Numerous studies over the last two decades have confirmed it is safe, effective, and beneficial, with minimal and preventable side effects. Confusion surrounding Ozone being unsafe often come from understanding the difference between Ozone and Medical Ozone. Ozone gasses in the atmosphere are a pollutant and can be harmful to life if inhaled in large quantities over prolonged periods. Medical Ozone is made of pure O3, which is safe when administered by fully trained, experienced professionals, and is never inhaled.
-
How is Ozone associated with pollutants and free radicals?Ozone is a molecule composed of three oxygen atoms. While two of these atoms form the basic oxygen molecule that we breathe, the third oxygen atom can detach and reattach to molecules of other substances, altering their chemical composition. This reactive nature allows ozone to interact with pollutants in the air, causing irritation through the production of free radicals. This same ability for the third oxygen atom to detach and reattach makes ozone effective in therapy. It can inactivate bacteria, viruses, fungi, yeast, and protozoa, stimulate oxygen metabolism, and activate the immune system.
-
What proof is there that Ozone works?Medical Ozone Therapy has been helping people since the 1940s and the testimonials speak for themselves. We have only received 100% positive feedback from our treatment. Research studies on the effectiveness of Medical Ozone are increasing and you can find some publicly available on websites such as Research Gate.
-
Where can I read more about Ozone Therapy? We have more information on our associated website about how Ozone works which you can find here. If you want to find out even more about Medical Ozone we suggest visiting the Ozone Society or The International Scientific Committee of Ozone Therapy.
-
What can Ozone Therapy be used for?Medical Ozone Therapy has a range of applications, the list of uses is almost endless. The best results have been found in treatment of wounds, diabetes, lyme disease, joint/back pain, arthritis and respiratory conditions.
-
What are Ozone Injections?'Direct Injection', or Ozone Injections, are a way of administering Medical Ozone. With this technique, O3 is injected directly into the site of injury or pain (usually a joint) for targeted recovery and pain relief. A syringe containing Ozone, is injected directly into painful areas around joints using a small needle. Before the injection, your practitioner will identify the areas to be treated (max 3 each limb) and will offer to numb the area with a special numbing cream or freeze spray.
-
Is this the same as Prolozone?Direct ozone injections are a treatment the same as what is known as 'Prolozone'; a highly effective therapy involving the injection of ozone to promote healing and reduce pain. However, 'Prolozone' is a registered trademark, and we are not permitted to use this brand name. Rest assured, the service we provide offers the same benefits and follows established principles, ensuring you receive the highest quality treatment.
-
How many treatments will I need?At your first appointment with The Ozone Hub our experienced nurses will discuss a recommended treatment plan for the symptoms you are experiencing. The frequency and number of treatments needed vary from person to person so it can be difficult to generalise what an exact treatment plan should look like. We usually recommend injections every 1-2 weeks but you should return for your next appointment when the pain or symptoms begin to return, which could be longer. You can experiment with leaving more time between appointments until the pain is noticeable and adjust the regularity of injections from there. If you have questions about number of appointments, frequency and regularity of treatments please contact our helpful team.
-
Do Ozone Injections hurt? There is some mild pain and discomfort with Ozone injections, just as with and injection. Some areas of the body are also more sensitive and this can effect the pain you experience. Although pain with this type of injection is minimal, you can request a numbing spray or cream to be used to desensitise the area. This can take a few minutes to be effective so please request this early on in your appointment. Please do not apply any numbing cream or spray before your appointment as this can impact the assessment. If you are concerned about the pain of Ozone injections, please contact our helpful team who will be able to support you: 0300 180 0112
-
Can the injection be ultrasound guided?Ultrasound guided Ozone Injections are recommended for very specific conditions such as Craniocervical instability (CCI). This is the same procedure where ozone is injected however our clinic does not offer ultrasound guided injections or reading of MRI or other scans.

What should I expect at my appointment?Your appointment begins with an initial welcome and consultation. Take a seat while a nurse discusses your medical history and the symptoms which bring you in for this treatment. We will discuss side effects, risks and contraindications, and obtain your consent before proceeding. Your clinician will then assess the problematic area to establish to optimum injection sites and explain the planned treatment. At this stage, we can also discuss our recommendations of treatment duration, spacing, frequency and longer term recovery plans. Although pain with this type of injection is minimal, you can request a numbing spray or cream to be used to desensitise the area. this can take a few minutes to be effective so please request this early on in your appointment. The equipment will be set up and ready to use, and a syringe will then be used to draw the ozone out of the machine. a small needle will be used with the syringe to administer the ozone into the site. Once comfortable on a treatment couch or chair, you can expect to receive the first injection into the site. Your injections will be carried out in line with the plan discussed at your appointment. There will be one injection into each site and there could be 2-4 injections into each area. You may be administered further injections, to the other wrist, knee or ankle etc., if your pain is bi-lateral. Multiple problem areas can be treated during the same session. A small dressing will be used on each injection site to protect the area from infection. There is often no bleeding from this type of injection, but a small amount is possible and nothing to worry about. After a few minuets of making sure you feel fine and well, your appointment is concluded with payment and aftercare advice.
-
What should I expect after my appointment? You should start to feel the benefit of your treatment almost immediately and these positive effects will continue to improve with ongoing treatment of Ozone, you may find that these begin to last longer in between treatments over time. There may be some pain at the injection site just like with any other injection.
-
Are there any risks with Ozone Injections?Ozone injections safe and have been administered to hundreds of thousands of patients without issue. Using our protocols, when injected into tissues or joints, ozone gas poses no risk. Serious adverse events are extremely rare. However, as with any medical procedure, there may be minor risks such as temporary pain or swelling at the injection site. It is important to have ozone injections performed by a qualified healthcare professional to ensure the highest level of safety and efficacy. The staff carrying out these treatments at the Ozone Hub are qualified nurses, with extensive medical ozone training and experience.
-
Are there any contraindications with Ozone Injections?A full consultation is carried out prior to any treatment so that our clinicians can ensure that the procedure is suitable for you and the condition you are experiencing. Advice from the Ozone Society state the below are contraindications to the procedure: Glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase deficiency (Favism) Acute haemolytic anemia Hyperthyroidism (non controlled) Pregnancy Major Auto-Haemotherapy is not indicated in leukemia Not performed in Very Advanced Stages of HIV Additional contraindications include: Citrus allergy (due to use of sodium citrate)
-
How does this type of Ozone treatment work?Major Autohaemotherapy (MAHT): Here, a small amount of blood (60mls) is drawn from a vein through a small needle (Butterfly) into the chamber of a special giving set (PHOTO). Ozone is added to the blood in the chamber using a syringe and the chamber is gently swirled to ensure that the Ozone diffuses into the blood. This Ozonated blood is then reinfused via the same giving set and needle back into the vein. Each time this process is completed, this is referred to as a ‘pass’. It is usual to have up to 4 passes in one treatment session with only one needle required. MAHT therapy is best suited for conditions such as: Illness recovery General health and wellness Lyme disease Fibromyalgia Bacterial conditions This treatment requires an initial consultation during which our experience clinician will discuss the best treatment plan, dosage and course of therapy to help achieve your desired outcomes.
-
What is UVBI?Major Autohaemotherapy (MAHT) ozone can be carried out with the added benefit of Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation (UVBI). Using a smaller amount of blood than with the standard intravenous medical ozone, ultraviolet light is passed through the blood as it enters the giving set via a special machine. The machine is set to deliver the exact amount of UV light to successfully irradiate the blood to destroy toxins, bacteria and viruses and increase the oxygen power of the blood. Combined with Ozone this gives the body a supercharged immune response. UVBI boosts the effects of MAHT even further, this treatment is best suited for: Illness recovery General health and wellness Lyme disease Fibromyalgia Bacterial conditions This treatment requires an initial consultation during which our experienced clinician will discuss the best treatment plan, dosage and course of therapy to help achieve your desired outcomes.
-
What are passes?Passes refer to the number of times a measurement of blood is withdrawn, 'ozonated' and then returned. The number of times this process is completed increases the overall dosage of Ozone your body has received. The dosage you can receive is also affected by the amount of ozone infused with each pass.
-
What is the dosage?the dosage delivered is 40-60Mcg of Ozone. This differs depending on your if it is your first appointment, where we may commence with one pass of 60Mcg, to an experienced client where we may use 60Mcg in each of 5 passes (total dosage of 300mcg).
-
Why do I need a consultation?Safety is a priority at the Ozone Hub and to ensure that treatments are carried out in the safest way possible it is important that all risks are mitigated. Our team do this in a number of ways during your consultation. They will begin by establishing your medical history, current medications, allergies and current health status to understand any possible increased risk factors or contraindications. Our clinician will discuss your current symptoms and treatment aims to establish if medical Ozone is a suitable procedure and that the treatments meets your needs. During your consultation, your clinician will also recommend an appropriate treatment program to maximize the results you can experience. This will include the dosage/concentration of ozone based on your condition, the frequency and the number of visits you may need. You can rest assured that a consultation is necessary as our commitment to your health ensures you receive the most effective and safe treatment possible.

Once you are comfortable on a treatment couch or chair, an experienced nurse will locate a vein on the inside of your elbow and a small needle will be used to begin withdrawing blood. The needle is connected to a tubing system which collects the blood into a small 'egg' container on an IV stand. Once the blood volume reaches around 60mls the ozone syringe is used to infuse this collected blood. The device is then adjusted so that the ozonated blood is returned through the tube and needle in your arm into the body. This process of withdrawing blood and ozonating it can increase the dosage you receive and is referred to as a 'pass'. Each pass can take around 10-15 minutes. A small dressing will be used on the site to protect the area from infection. After a few minutes of making sure you feel fine and well, your appointment is concluded with payment and aftercare advice.
-
What should I expect after my appointment? You may begin to feel the benefits of this treatment immediately. Some recipients of medical ozone report initially feeling a 'detoxing' effect. Due to the detoxifying nature of the procedure and its successful antibacterial action of Ozone on bacterial cells, flu-like symptoms are the most commonly reported side effect. This is referred to as a Herxheimer Reaction. This is not a side effect unique to Ozone, but a natural healing process seen in other modalities as well. This can last anything from 2 hours to 24-48 hours, and in some people can last longer. It is nothing to worry about and resolves itself as you detoxify your body. These symptoms can include: • Headache • Malaise or tiredness • Fever • Chills • Nausea • General aches and pains

Does this treatment hurt?Medical Ozone is ultimately a minimally invasive procedure carried out with only a needle breaking the skin. The experience has a similar pain to donating blood. Usually after the initial scratch of the needle breaking the skin the pain is minimal although some who receive MAHT treatments report also feel a brief, uncomfortable pain or sense of fullness whilst the ozone is being administered. Although every precaution and safety measure is taken, there is a potential risk of light-headedness/fainting (vasovagal syncope). This usually only lasts a few moments before the recipient will feel an improvement in their symptoms.
-
How can I prepare for my appointment? You can take a few steps to maximise the effects of your treatment: Stay well hydrated, this will ensure we are able to obtain a vein for your infusion. Limit alcohol and sugar intake prior to your Ozone treatment as these are known to affect the results. It is not advisable to undertake Medical Ozone within 48 hours of consuming alcohol/alcohol intoxication. If you are nervous when having blood taken or health care professionals struggle to access your veins, let us know in advance so that we can discuss your individual needs prior to your appointment.
